Meet Our New Interns!

We’ve had the pleasure to welcome new staff who joined us as Intern Associates and will be helping the Association progress during these times of restoration in the fourth quarter of 2021. Let’s get to know them!

Ye Eun Kim - Events Intern

Hi everyone! This is Ye Eun Kim from Korea (ROK). As I major in Hospitality and Tourism Management, I have always dreamed to join the international tourism industry. In that respect, PATA is providing me with valuable experience. While working as an intern of the Events team these days, I’m learning the process of preparing and conducting virtual events from my perfect and competent team members! Regrettably, most of the events are held virtually, but I believe that these unique experiences would be of great help to me for preparing to join the New Normal tourism industry.

Also, this internship is broadening my view. In fact, I’ve never done international activities before, so I’ve always wondered about the new culture and wanted to broaden my narrow view. Therefore, it’s so meaningful for me to learn a new culture from my team members, even though we have no choice but to communicate online. It’s a short period, but I’m so happy to be a member of PATA’s family. And I really hope I can be of help to this organization while working as an intern!

Looi Pei Wen - Events Intern

Hi! I am Pei Wen from Malaysia. I am currently studying for my Bachelor’s Degree in Events Management and also finished my Diploma in Hospitality Business Management. I am passionate about self-development and self-improvement in my personal life. I am always looking to challenge myself and learn new things. I wish to step out of my comfort zone and that is one reason I engage in PATA amid this pandemic.

As an Events Intern, I have been given the great opportunity to work and communicate with those professionals from different countries and gained valuable insights into the tourism industry. I hope I can unlock some skills that help me in my day-to-day work but also in my personal life. I am also blessed to work at PATA because I meet wonderful and amazing colleagues that I can learn a lot. I am looking forward to meeting them in person in Bangkok someday!

Minkyung Kang - Youth Intern

Greetings everyone, my name is Minkyung Kang and I am a youth intern in PATA. I am from Seoul, Korea (ROK). I am a person who gains energy from meeting diverse people. By meeting new people all around the world makes me feel alive, so if you think you are a person like me you will love PATA’s youth team.

I’ve constantly wanted to be a person who can change the world, and while working in PATA, I think I may have triggered a small leap to that dream. I hope you can take your small steps with PATA too. Working remotely is genuinely an unfortunate situation, but with help from all PATA staff and the welcoming atmosphere made me feel like I was in the office. I wish I could one day go to Bangkok and meet all of them in person. Thank you, PATA for enabling me to have this invaluable opportunity.

Jiyoon Park - Membership Intern

I am Jiyoon Park from Korea (ROK), currently based in Busan. I love swing jazz, Thai milk tea and seafood. Majoring in International Studies, I had so many options when it came to my future career.  Then, I realized that one of them was to work in the international tourism industry. What I like the most about tourism is that not only does it contribute to the connection between different cultures, countries and people, but also that therefore, it gives people joy and happiness. It is only fair that I am enjoying every single second of the internship. While working in the membership department, I had several opportunities to talk to PATA members all over the world, which truly taught me the significance of togetherness in the industry. Now, it is undeniable that tourism is going through inevitable difficulties due to the universal pandemic situation. And that exactly is why an association like PATA is needed more than ever, to overcome the challenges and hardships jointly. For that reason, I am more than proud to be a part of PATA during this time.

Chi Mai Nguyen - SSR Intern (Sustainability & Social Responsibility Intern)

Hi everyone, I am Chi Mai Nguyen from Hanoi, Vietnam. Currently, I am pursuing my Master's Degree in Public and Corporate Communication at the University of Milan, Italy. Before that, I graduated Bachelor's Degree in Tourism Management at Hanoi University.

I am passionate about traveling and discovering new countries and cultures around the world. In my free time, I enjoy researching new destinations and potential future travel plans. During my study years, I traveled to seven European destinations: France, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Hungary, Italy, Spain and five destinations within Asia: Thailand, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Japan and Indonesia. Every trip gives me so many great lessons that encourage me to work and research further in the tourism industry.

Before working at PATA, I participated in some Sustainable tourism projects in Vietnam. Besides, I also run my own homestay and tour experience in Hanoi. However, my plan has been changed because of COVID-19 and my countries are locked down. It is a great chance for me to work at PATA with my amazing SSR team and apply my knowledge to contribute in Tourism Destination Resilience project.

Arifin Rosman - SSR Intern (Sustainability & Social Responsibility Intern)

Hello there, I am Arifin Rosman or you can call me Dolphin for short. I come from Cambodia and I joined PATA as an intern on October 26. I am studying in Thailand but since it’s quite far away from the HQ and the pandemic’s reason, I have to work remotely and that’s unfortunate. Nevertheless, it is a great honor and opportunity to work as an intern for PATA. I study “International Tourism and Hospitality Management” at Naresuan University International College (NUIC). When I was first introduced to PATA by my advisor, I was interested in engaging with the association instantly.

My love for travel abroad led me to choose the major and also led me to be awarded the scholarship to study here in Thailand. I’ve learned a lot about sustainability and social responsibility through the actual site visit around Thailand, through the “Ecosperity Week 2019” conference participation, and through tackling main issues of a specific company while participating in the “Youth Ecosperity Dialogue 2019” program, and that’s how my love and commitment for SSR comes to rise. Taking a step on PATA as an Intern is a huge challenge for me to overcome.

Elliot Laoroekutai - Communications Intern

Hello! My name is Elliot Laoroekutai and I am from the Land of Smiles, Thailand. I have completed my studies in BBA Hotel and Resort Management (International Programme) at Dusit Thani College, Bangkok and I am waiting for my graduation ceremony to take place. I am really into the travel industry since my university programme is directly related to it. I also like to interact with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

Being an intern at PATA got me to see a bigger picture of the travel and tourism industry along with the insights and trends that could help the industry going forward, particularly on sustainability. Moreover, the team that I worked with was very friendly and helpful.

In my spare time, I enjoy hip hop dancing, playing on the piano and the guitar, and making travel-related YouTube videos. There is a quote I live by which is “Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine.” I believe that whichever path I go to, there will be obstacles such as the current global situation, so I must stay positive to overcome them.
