PATA Honours PATA Chapters and Student Chapters in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan
The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) honoured the accomplishments of three PATA Chapters and one Student Chapter in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan on Saturday, September 21 during the PATA Board Dinner and Chapter Awards Presentation, hosted by Kazakh Tourism.
PATA CEO Dr. Mario Hardy said, “The PATA Chapters and Student Chapters willingly volunteer their own time and effort to support the Association’s values and we recognise their importance in creating a responsible and sustainable travel and tourism industry in the Asia Pacific region and beyond through their grassroots activism. These awards celebrate their voluntary efforts and I would like to personally congratulate all the winners of this year’s awards.”
During the evening, PATA presented the 2019 Spirit of PATA Award to Datuk Musa Hj Yusof, Chairman of the PATA Malaysia Chapter, who received the award on behalf of the Chapter. The Spirit of PATA Award is given to the Chapter that best illustrates the aims and objectives of PATA consistently and progressively over a number of years.
The PATA Award of Excellence was presented to the PATA Indonesia Chapter, and the PATA Canada Vancouver Capilano University Student Chapter. The PATA India Chapter was honoured for their dedication in the development of travel to, from and within the Asia Pacific region over the previous two years in a manner consistent with the aims and objectives of PATA, while the PATA Canada Vancouver Capilano University Student Chapter was recognised for creating opportunities for the development of future young tourism professionals.
Ms. Ibu Ningsih Chandra, Vice Chairperson of the PATA Indonesia Chapter, accepted the award, while Ms. Stefanie Carlson, Chairperson of the PATA Canada Vancouver Capilano University Student Chapter, accepted the award on behalf of the Student Chapter. This was the second consecutive year that the PATA Canada Vancouver Capilano University Student Chapter has been recognised.
The PATA Best Engagement with Young Tourism Professionals was awarded to the PATA Nepal Chapter for the third year in a row for their great dedication and contribution in engaging with young tourism professionals in promoting the industry. Mr. Suresh Singh Budal, CEO of the PATA Nepal Chapter, accepted the award on behalf of the PATA Nepal Chapter.
During PATA Travel Mart 2019 and the PATA Executive Board and Board Meetings in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, Chapters were present from many destinations including Bangladesh, Chinese Taipei, Guam, India, Indonesia, Macao, Malaysia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Singapore, Thailand, and UK & Ireland. PATA was also pleased to welcome PATA Student Chapter members from Capilano University and Taylor’s University.
