ASSET-H&C Network Keeps Its Good Deeds on Tourism Vocational Training for Vulnerable Youth in Southeast Asia

As the PATA Grand Award Winner 2019, ASSET-H&C has been supporting vocational training centres, which are also operating as social enterprises, across Southeast Asia to empower young people from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds with a career in Tourism & Hospitality. Learn more about their interesting projects in 2022 and 2023.

ASSET-H&C is a network that brings together vocational training centres willing to work together hand-in-hand to better fulfil their common social mission; To bring positive change to the lives of young people from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds, by teaching them trades that will allow them to successfully integrate into the Hospitality & Catering sector.

The network connects 13 member schools across Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, which altogether support quality education for over 1400 students/year by:

●      Facilitating exchange of experiences and resources

●      Strengthening schools' capacities through technical support

●      Promoting impactful visibility to the member schools

●      Championing sustainable futures

BOUNCE BACK TOGETHER

From 2019 to 2022, in order to support members to bounce back during and post-COVID, ASSET-H&C granted 118 scholarships for students to support their education and organized many online workshops, training courses, webinars and seminars for school managers and teaching staff.

JOIN ASSET-H&C FOR MORE IMPACT

Through answering timely and insightfully to the needs of its members, ASSET-H&C has been able to design new projects for 2023 and the coming years that are open to sponsorship, collaboration and contributions from the public.

To improve the educational quality at our member schools, the PROF Training of Trainers program continues for new batches of trainers and creates a sustainable training system to enhance trainers’ pedagogical capacities. The increased quality of training will translate into greater motivation and better job integration for students. The program also creates a community of trainers in Southeast Asia to ensure sustainable peer learning. PROF covers online sessions and in-person workshops.

A substantial part of the Tourism workforce in the region was laid off during the pandemic and decided not to return to the industry. CareerFocus is a 3-year program of ASSET-H&C that helps to turn this situation around by offering member schools to work hand in hand with employers in the Hospitality industry and achieve sustainable job placement for students. CareerFocus covers three tracks: a focus on recruiting new students, a focus on building employment partnerships, and a focus on alumni’s career evolution.

As a unique network, ASSET-H&C will continue to facilitate exchanges and meaningful activities to help 13 members improve their social impact. Join us and our members to bring more positive changes to the lives of young people from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds in Southeast Asia by preparing them for a professional career in Tourism & Hospitality. By being the agencies of their own lives, they can support their families, break the poverty cycle and contribute back to their communities.

Tourism stakeholders, companies, organizations, experts and enthusiasts wishing to sponsor, support and contribute in any way possible to the coming effort of ASSET-H&C and its member schools, please feel free to contact asset@iecd.org | Marlene Vermeij, Project Manager at marlene.vermeij@iecd.org.
