On the morning of April 9, the press conference of Beijing·Pinggu World Leisure Congress was held in the press conference room of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality. Wang Jun, Vice Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the 2020 Beijing·Pinggu World Leisure Congress, Deputy Secretary-General of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality, Secretary of CPC Committee and Director-General of the Beijing Municipal Government Service Administration, Wu Xiaojie, Vice Chairman of the Organizing Committee of 2020 Beijing·Pinggu World Leisure Congress, Deputy Secretary of Beijing Pinggu District Party Committee and District Chief of Pinggu District, Pang Wei, Director of the Office of the Organizing Committee of 2020 Beijing·Pinggu World Leisure Congress, Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism and Level I Inspector, Xu Suzhi, Deputy Director of the Organizing Committee Office of 2020 Beijing·Pinggu World Leisure Congress and Deputy District Chief of Pinggu District, and other relevant leaders attended the Congress, introduced the basic situation and highlights of the Congress, and answered questions from reporters.
Founded in 1952, the World Leisure Organization is an unofficial organization with consultative status of the United Nations, which is the highest authoritative organization in the world leisure field. Since the first World Leisure Congress was held in 1988, the World Leisure Organization has held 15 congresses in Hangzhou, China (9th), Sydney, Australia, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Sao Paulo, Brazil, Durban, South Africa and other cities. With 30 years of accumulation, the World Leisure Congress has gathered many academic resources, which has developed into the most influential academic event in the world leisure field.
On January 29, 2015, the State Council approved Beijing's bid for the 2020 World Leisure Congress. On September 11 of the same year, Beijing won the right to host the 16th World Leisure Congress in 2020, which will be sponsored by the People's Government of Beijing Municipality and organized by Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism and Pinggu District People's Government of Beijing Municipality. Affected by the global COVID-19 epidemic, the 16th World Leisure Congress, originally scheduled to be held in October 2020, was postponed to April 15-21, 2021 in Pinggu District, Beijing after being approved by the People's Government of Beijing Municipality and the World Leisure Organization.
This World Leisure Congress, with the theme of "Leisure Improves the Quality of Life", adheres to the concepts of all-domain leisure, all-season leisure and nationwide leisure, which will be held in the mode of "online + offline". The opening and closing ceremonies and award ceremony, one main session with the theme of "Leisure Improves the Quality of Life", 14 parallel sessions, China (Beijing) International Leisure Industry Exposition and 9 characteristic leisure activities will be held. Experts from all over the world will gather here to discuss the world leisure trend. On the opening day of April 16, the Main Session of the Congress will be held. The first special exhibition hall in our country--Shangzhai Cultural Exhibition Hall, named after the archaeological culture, is located on the bank of Jinhai Lake. In 2020, Shangzhai relics was rated as the 8th Batch State Protected Historic Site. Moreover, on the first lookout tower of the Great Wall (Hongshimen section) within the territory of the town, the State Council set up three boundary tablets (Tianjin Boundary, Hebei Boundary and Beijing Boundary) in 1996, and therefore the special geographic position determines its uniqueness in the Great Wall of Ming Dynasty across the country.
