Meridian Adventure Dive: The Raja Ampat Worm….What is the Worm?

RAJA AMPAT, INDONESIA, 15th February, 2021 - Becoming known as one of Raja Ampat’s best kept secrets, Meridian Adventure Dive Resort is located in Waisai, which is the Capital of the Raja Ampat Regency, on the island of Waigeo – Indonesia.

Along with the rest of the World, we had a considerable amount of time on our hands during the 2020 lockdown. We used this time to not only discover new dive sites in Raja Ampat but to find new ways to have fun while doing it. Jetting off into the turquoise avenues of Indonesia’s waters, we came across a few dive spots that will evoke a new sense of adventure in any kind of diver.

Our MAD Dive Guides found gardens of soft corals and sponges, underwater pinnacles and secret spots ideal for macro lovers. Whilst exploring the underwater sites of Raja Ampat, they came across one of the best sightings of it all – The Worm.

One of our Dive Guides started showcasing some strange underwater behavior which did not fit any of the underwater hand signals divers are accustomed to. This is when The Worm was born and they have been doing it at every dive site they have visited since.  It has become our Dive Guides’ signature move, expressing the boundless energy that they experience whilst being able to explore the hidden pockets of Raja Ampat, Indonesia.

When to do The Worm…

It is customary to do The Worm at the end of each dive, on the 3 minute safety stop at 5 meters. All our Dive Guides are equipped with Go-Pros ready to snap The Worm, and of course, all the amazing underwater finds from sunken planes to underwater forests and all the hidden treasures that this location has to offer.  The Worm is like a little war cry from Meridian Adventures to finish off each dive site that we have discovered.

How to do the Worm…
