PATA Thailand Chapter Extends Deepest Condolences on Oct 6 Mass Murder in Thailand
Thailand, October 7, 2022 –The PATA Thailand chapter extends its deepest, sincerest condolences to the families of the victims of the tragic, senseless killings at a daycare centre in Nong Bua Lamphu Province on Oct 6, 2022. We are devastated by this tragedy and join the people of Thailand in prayers and grief.
There is no doubt that it has severely tarnished the positive image of Thailand. Such violence is totally out of character in a kingdom long known for its friendliness and hospitality. However, in the midst of the intense soul-searching, we must also recognise that the dark side of every society can affect us all.
High-level investigations are under way to establish the psychological motivation of the killer. The Thai tourism industry is morally obliged to also take a deeper look at some of the underlying societal problems and include them in the broader definition of "sustainability" as we pursue a "New Normal" in the post-Covid era.
The PATA Thailand chapter will honour its responsibilities in that endeavour. It is the least we can do to honour the memories of the innocent victims of Oct 6.
