Bangalore, Karnataka, India, August 10th 2023 — PATA India CHRIST University Student Chapter in collaboration with the Department of Tourism Management at Christ (Deemed to be University), Bannerghatta Road Campus, Bangalore, hosted a guest speaking session titled "Miraculous Millets" on August 10, 2023. The event, held in the Seminar Hall from 12 pm to 1 pm, featured esteemed speakers Ms. Ruchika Bhuwalka, Founder of Millet Amma, and Mr. Ajay Bhuwalka, CEO of Millet Amma. This event aimed to raise awareness about the nutritional and environmental benefits of millets, emphasizing their potential to transform dietary habits.
The session began with a warm welcome speech by the emcees, setting a respectful tone for the distinguished guests. Ms. Ruchika Bhuwalka, affectionately known as "Millet Amma," shared her journey of introducing a variety of millet-based products that are both nutritious and sustainable. Mr. Ajay Bhuwalka highlighted the challenges and opportunities within this emerging industry, stressing the importance of minor millets and their integration into daily diets.
Students from the Department of Tourism Management actively participated, posing insightful questions such as, "Do you think millet will go from forgotten grains to forever grains?" and "What challenges do you face in this completely new industry?" Another thought-provoking question addressed the affordability of healthy foods, asking, "Do you have any plan to bring down the cost of healthy foods so that everyone can afford it?" These interactions underscored the students' keen interest in the subject and their engagement with the topic.
Ms. Bhuwalka introduced the audience to over 50 millet products, including ragi laddoos, organic millet pizza bases, and cookies, all designed to incorporate millet into everyday meals. The session not only highlighted the health benefits of millets but also addressed their potential to revolutionize food habits by making nutritious food accessible and affordable.
The event, organized to commemorate the International Year of the Millets, aimed to revive interest in this ancient grain. The Department of Tourism Management recognized the significance of millets, which have been largely forgotten in modern times, and emphasized their importance in contemporary diets. Following the guest lecture, the vote of thanks was delivered, and the guests were honoured with a small token of gratitude from Dr. Suja John, a faculty member of the tourism department.
The session concluded with a meaningful exchange of ideas and the presentation of gifts to the speakers by Dr. Suja John. The rapporteurs for the event, Vanshika Gupta, Manogna Reddy, and Sreyoshi Hazarika, ensured smooth communication and documentation of the session.
