PATA India Christ University Student Chapter: Ragikana
Bangalore, Karnataka, India, 4th August, 2024 - PATA India Christ University Student Chapter organised a field visit to Ragikana at Sri Ramakrishna Samagra Shikshana Kendra, Bengaluru. The event offered a unique opportunity to experience the rich legacy of Indian handlooms, featuring weavers from Gajendragada, Mahalingapura, and Kinhala in North Karnataka. The students witnessed Ambar Charaka spinning and weaving demonstrations, along with a rare block printing workshop showcasing 35 different types of blocks. The event also displayed authentic traditional sarees, garments, and fabrics from 15 reputed handloom brands, highlighting the craftsmanship and dedication of the weavers.
This visit reinforced the importance of supporting sustainable practices, not just in terms of environmental responsibility but also in preserving and promoting India’s cultural heritage. The intricate work and dedication of the weavers serve as a reminder of the vital role they play in keeping Indian traditions alive. Christ University encourages everyone to support these artisans by choosing handloom products, helping sustain their livelihoods and protecting this invaluable aspect of our culture.
About PATA India Christ University Student Chapter:
Founded in 2020, the PATA India Christ University Student Chapter is India’s first PATA Student Chapter. The organization is run by students of the tourism discipline of Christ (Deemed to be University) to benefit more than 250 members spanning undergraduate and postgraduate tourism programmes in the university. The members are encouraged to participate in activities hosted by the chapter, focusing on various industry concerns, including sustainability and industry development.
