PATA Malaysia Taylor's Student Chapter hosted Strategic Partnership between Taylor’s University and Malaysia Tourism Council

Subang Jaya, Malaysia, 1st December 2020 - Recently, Taylor’s University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Malaysia Tourism Council via a video conference. This MoU was anchored by PATA Malaysia Taylor’s Student Chapter (PATA MTSC) last 1st December 2020. The MoU, namely strategic Partnership is aimed to provides a platform between Taylor’s University and Malaysia Tourism Council to exchange knowledge and skills in the teaching and learning process, build collaboration with research projects and support the internship placement to the students.

Taylor’s University was represented by Professor Dr. Neethiahnanthan Ari Ragavan, Executive Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences and Leisure Management, Dr. Joaquim Dias Soeiro, Head of School of Hospitality, Tourism and Events and Dr. Lisa Tung, Program Director of Events and Tourism Programmes, While, Malaysia Tourism Council was represented by Mr. Uzaidi Udanis, President of Malaysia Tourism Council, Dato’ Thangavelu Kuppusamy, Deputy President, Malaysia Tourism Council, Dato’ Noor Zaleha Baharuddin, Honorary Secretary General, Malaysia Tourism Council and Datuk Azlie Halim, Vice President, Malaysia Tourism Council. This MoU was signed by Mr. Uzaidi Udanis and witnessed by Professor Dr. Neethiahnanthan Ari Ragavan and Dato’ Noor Zaleha Baharuddin. The MoU will pave the way for better collaboration between the two institutions which would benefit all its stakeholders.

PATA Malaysia Taylors Student Chapter also used this opportunity to present a short – 16 minutes video on ideas of future tourism. The student chapter compiled Hospitality, Tourism and Events students’ ideas and visions for the future of the tourism sector in Malaysia. Mr. Uzaidi Udanis and Dato’ Thangavelu Kuppusamy were impressed with students’ knowledge and ideas and expressed their interest to upcoming projects with Taylor’s University. This MoU was attended by representatives of Taylor’s University, Malaysia Tourism Council, academicians, PATA MTSC members and students.

Approximately 120 participants (consisting of students, academicians and PATA MTSC members) joined this session. The webinar began at 11 am with a welcoming speech by Ms Kuhavati (facilitator of the event). She welcomed all participants and explained the agenda of the event. Dr. Joaquim Dias Soeiro, the Head of School of Hospitality, Tourism and Events of Taylor's University provided opening remarks and thanked Dr. Puvaneswaran for being the event's guest speaker. Dr. Puvaneswaran provided a good explanation of rural tourism and its contribution to sustainable tourism initiatives. Then, Ms Teresa Dines (the moderator of the event) conducted the Q&A session. The session was ended at 12.30 pm with few announcements on PATA-MTSC upcoming actives. It was a fruitful session for all participants and a great experience for PATA MTSC on conducting a virtual event.
